Herdr

A terminal multiplexer for running and monitoring multiple AI coding agents from one place—real pseudo-terminal (PTY) panes, persistent sessions that survive disconnects, and semantic state awareness (blocked, working, done, idle) across a whole “herd” of agents. It runs wherever the agents run (local, remote server, over SSH), with a CLI and socket API for control, and integrates with Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, OpenCode, and others. In the same space as cmux and Orca for AI coding workflows; compared to Orca, Herdr is simpler.

Use cases#

Kai-Cheng Yang uses herdr as his default interface for juggling Claude Code, Codex, and Pi side by side, sometimes layering Vibe Island (a Mac-notch status hub) on top when he wants live notifications—his full stack also covers Zed, Obsidian, Warp, Yazi, and lazygit (My AI Agent Stack).
